Malcolm Williams spent 21 years with the Canadian government’s Translation Bureau, where he was a translator, reviser, trainer, evaluator, director and account manager. He subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Translation Studies (University of Ottawa, 2001) — the first doctorate in this discipline to be awarded by a Canadian translation school — and worked as an associate professor at the University of Ottawa School of Translation and Interpretation until retiring in 2017. Since then he has continued to teach courses, primarily in translation pedagogy, and to work as a freelance translator, reviser and editor. He is the coauthor of The Canadian Style: A Guide to Writing and Editing, the Canadian government’s style manual. He has also published a book and a number of articles on translation quality assessment and translator training.
